Welcome

Basildon Women's Aid is a charitable organisation providing a refuge for women and their children who have been victims of domestic violence, which may be physical, mental or sexual.

Many hundreds of women have taken refuge with us since the refuge opened in 1977. The refuge offers an escape route from violence and a chance to seek alternatives to a life of danger, isolation and fear.

Almost all domestic violence is directed by men against women, but it can and does occur in lesbian and gay relationships and in a very small minority of cases, by women against men. Although this web-site can be used by everyone who is in a violent relationship, it is mainly addressing women.

IT IS NOT YOUR FAULT. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO LIVE FREE FROM FEAR.

Training Days

During 2008 a series of Training Days have been scheduled to provide individuals and organisations with comprehensive information from local, national and international specialists.

Intended for professionals and service providers from both the statutory and voluntary sectors, the Training Days are designed to raise awareness of the dynamics and impact of domestic violence on the whole community, and the services available to victims (and perpetrators) and how ‘you’ can make a positive difference.
